Creative Code Denver /
Creative Coding Demo Day No. 8
Come for the demos, stay for the company
Saturday, August 10, 2024
1:30pm to 4:00pm
2101 W 29th Ave
Hosted by Norton King
$0-$20
Details
Demo days are where people present creative coding projects at any stage of progress—or just watch people give demos. They're low-key events where people can get to know each other (and their projects).
We’ll talk about what we’re jamming on, what we’re learning, what we’d like to work on or learn, etc.
We’ll have a TV we’ll be able to connect to via HDMI.
New Venue
Going forward, all generative art meetups will be hosted at The Company, a membership-supported creative space in LoHi.
The Company will also be where we’ll host the annual demo night / art show / party, so if you’re interested in exhibiting, definitely come check out the space! Talk to or message Norton about exhibiting.
2nd floor. Go up the exterior stairs.
What to bring
You don’t need to bring anything, but if you want to show us some of your work (very much encouraged), bring your laptop/sketchbook/etc. Don’t forget to bring your charger and any adapters you might need to connect to the tv via HDMI. We’ll have a usb-c to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable.
Parking
There’s free street parking and paid lots near the venue. Parking map here
Afterwards
Everyone's welcome to hang out and have a beer in the space after the event.
Previously
I showed a web app for typesetting in a generative font and pen plotter prints of spiral spiderwebs made with Voronoi diagrams
Livvy showed us a web app for making trinary cypher sigils for members of our coworking space.
Trash Robot showed us open source scientific instruments that pretend to be keyboards and stream data to p5 sketches as keystrokes
Jacob showed us rock-paper-scissors-(but-more-complicated)-based cellular automata in NetLogo.
In the latest installment of his graphic engine he’s writing from scratch, Mason showed us vibey pixel shaders controlled by midi sliders.
About the group
Denver Generative Art is for people interested in exploring code as a creative medium. It’s also for helping people find creative collaborators. (AI stuff is off-topic)
Who should join?
Anyone, at any skill level, who’s interested in programming in the context of the arts—whether visual, or sonic, or tactile, or interactive, or whatever you happen to be interested in
Misc
The generative art group has a discord!
One of our previous events was a Show & Tell—basically this event except people prepared presentations beforehand. Check out the recap here.
After every meetup we add things people have mentioned to the group's link archive
You may cancel your ticket for a full refund up to 24 hours before the event. Click "manage tickets" in your confirmation email. Contact hello@thecompany.social with any questions.
